The Video Producer documents the City of Frederick's story through various digital means, including video, photography and graphic design. Working with various City departments, the Video Producer captures imagery and develops content to meet clients' needs. This position assists the Production Supervisor with directing television programming and broadcasting of City meetings and live events. The Video Producer receives weekly assignments and a work schedule from the Production Supervisor. The Video Producer must have the flexibility to work evening meetings and occasional City weekend events.
Essential duties and responsibilities include developing innovative and creative digital media to inform the public about Frederick, uploading recorded public meetings and other special programming to Channel 99 and online video streaming, leading strategic multimedia initiatives, producing short- and long-form videos, photography, graphics, animation and other visual content, documenting the City's story and capturing timely news, events and initiatives, writing scripts for video productions, coordinating production schedules, organizing video and photo coverage of requested City events, leading and assisting studio and field productions, optimizing workflow of files and projects, keeping camera integrity and imaging consistent, maintaining equipment in the field and in the control room in good working condition, fixing and/or diagnosing equipment failures and unforeseen production changes, operating cameras, video recorders, audio boards, lights and switches, directing live televised meetings, working on/being available on rotating call schedule for night, weekend and emergency responses, helping supervise department part-time staff, interns, and volunteers, and cross-training for technical skills with the Production Supervisor.
Qualifications include an associate's degree or certification in a specific field of digital media or related communications field from an accredited college or university or sufficient work experience in related communications field, three (3) years of work experience in video production, two (2) years of video broadcasting work experience, experience with the operation of video cameras of current digital formats, and a vehicle operator's license with satisfactory driving record that meets insurability standards of the City's insurance carrier. Required skills include knowledge of industry standard production methods and procedures, working knowledge of graphic design and composition, proficiency with editing software such as Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, or other appropriate, current software, strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to problem solve and troubleshoot, and ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, elected officials, and the general public.
